signed and dated ‘augustin. 1792.’ (mid-right), the reverse covered in blue moiré silk with the inscription in gilt lettering, ‘AUGUSTIN / PORTRAIT DE MADAME / DE SARTIGES / & DE SA FILLE’ and a printed label with the number ‘61’, with the handwritten details ‘Augustin / Mme de Sartige’, in a fitted red leather case, the cover stamped in gilt ‘AUGUSTIN / PORTRAIT / DE LA COMTESSE DE SARTIGES / ET DE SA FILLE’, made at the behest of Félix Panhard by L. Houde at 82 rue Bonaparte, Paris

Provenance:

The celebrated collection of Mr Vincent, Paris, sold en bloc by his only son Prosper Vincent to Félix Panhard, on 2 April 1883, for 210,000 Gold Francs. Félix Panhard (1842-1891) Collection, Paris. His nephew Hippolyte Panhard. Thence by family descent until sale of the Panhard Collection, part I, Palais Galliéra, Paris, 5 December 1975, lot 17, as ‘La comtesse de Lartiges et sa fille’ (25,000 FF).
